RKO Chester Theatre1938 Boston Road (near the entrance to the Bronx Zoo)
The 2,473-seat RKO Chester was designed by Eugene DeRosa and George Keister opened as a vaudeville and movie house December, 1927 under Keith-Albee management. The theatre closed in 1968 with the auditorium being converted into a warehouse and the adjoining office space converted to a motel. (reference) When I visited in 2005, the auditorium served as an auto repair facility with many of the old auditorium features still visible, albeit dimly lit and in considerable disrepair.
