The Goodman House was designed by modernist
architect Ashok Bhavnani and opened in 1978 as
the home of the Kaufman Center, an arts center
that includes the 443-seat Merkin Concert Hall,
the Lucy Moses School (a community arts school)
and PS 859, a public elementary and junior high
school with a strong arts component. In late 2007,
the building underwent a signifcant renovation
designed by Robert A.M. Stern.
