2007 IATSE Strike
On November 10, 2007, IATSE Local One, the
Broadway stagehands union, began a strike against League of American Theatres and Producers,
shutting down most Broadway theatres for 19 days. The strike was the first in the 121-year history
of the union and
concluded on November 29, 2007 after an all-night negotiating session.
The primary issues regarded work rules governing the number of workers
needed for specific tasks (especially load-in) and the number of hours
that workers could be required to work before and after a show without
incurring an additional four-hour minimum call. The union traded
relaxation of older requirements in return for salary increases.
