Zabar's2245 Broadway (at 80th Street) Zabar's began in 1934 when Louis and Lillian Zabar rented a counter at an Upper West Side Dutch market and sold smoked fish. Ultimately they took over the whole building and their children took over the business after Louis Zabar passed away in 1950.
