Jean Aumer (1774-1833)

Jean Aumer (1774-1833), French dancer and choreographer. Studied with Dauberval and was deeply influenced by his opinions of character dancers, and ballet d'action. Made his debut as a dancer with the Paris Opera in 1798, and was ballet master at the Paris Theatre de la Porte Saint-Martin 1804-6. The King of Westphalia engaged him for the Cassel Court. After a successful career he retired to Normandy in 1831.
