Royal Drive-In

Meridian, MS

Located on the southwest corner of this small Southern town just off I-20. One of numerous closed drive-in theatres that dot the undeveloped parts of American suburbia. Part of the land seems to have been converted to a racing facility of some kind.

More interesting is a gate that is the remnant of the Royal Land amusement park, which presumably had some connection with the drive-in as an entertainment complex. A blog posting mentioning the park indicates that it closed after financial problems associated with a ride injury and briefly served as an RV park. Although I chose not to venture through the weeds, supposedly some fountain bases remain from the amusement park days.
