The Junior League of Little Rock began its Summer Arts Festival in 1978 with a performance of the American Wind Symphony in Murray Park. The event name was changed to Riverfest the following year and in 1983 the festival moved to Julius Breckling Riverfront Park, which was in the beginning stages of redevelopment. Ground was broken for the current amphitheatre in 1987 and it hosted its first performance the following summer. (reference)
