Veterans Memorial Auditorium
Providence, RI
Construction on the Providence Masonic Temple began in the early 1920s near the State Capitol
with plans for two Greek Revival buildings linked by a triangular structure at ground level.
When the depression hit, construction on the buildings (with largely completed exterior structures)
was postponed and eventually abandoned. The City of Providence took over the derelict buildings in the 1980s
and completed work on the Auditorium, leaving its sister building a spooky, brooding shell just next door.

Numerous plans for the sister building came and went over
the years until 2006 when the building was gutted to build a luxury hotel that preserves
the landmarked Greek Revival exterior.
