Salem Charcoal Plant
Salem, MO
This was active charcoal plant around five miles from my grandparents'
farm on K highway near the junction with Z highway in Dent County. I have very
specific childhood memories of the burnt wood odor from our numerous visits to
the farm. While the plant ceased operation sometime in the 1990s, the site
still existed with no significant barriers to access when I took these photos
in the spring of 2007.
