Driskill Mountain
32.424598,-92.897379
Driskill Mountain is the highest point in Louisiana at 535 feet above sea
level. Louisiana is not known for its mountainous topography, so it should be
no surprise that its summit is not that impressive - although the drive through
the woods out there is pleasant and, I assume, the hike up to the peak is
probably quite nice as well. The mountain is named after James Christopher
Driskill who came from Georgia and bought this 320-acre plot of land in 1859. In 1883, Driskill
sold a two-acre parcel of land (along current LA highway 507) to Mount Zion
Presbyterian Church with the agreement that it would remain a house of worship
and cemetery in perpetuity.
